Mediumcool is a project of exhibitions and events devoted to Czech and international design ranging from traditional to new media, including graphics, architecture, sound, animation, installations and other expressive mediums. The interaction of different disciplines and aesthetics is supported by a live DJ and projections that create a unique cultural event. These regular events foster a platform for communication between representatives of different creative fields and present new ways of approaching design while providing a dynamic and creative atmosphere which helps bring together both the local and international design community. In addition to the events, mediumcool continues its community building with an interactive website ( www.mediumcool.org ) where it will present and archive the exhibitions, as well as offer design-related forums, rich-media applications, upcoming programs and much more. By offering the site in both Czech and English language, Mediumcool is also accessible to the greater global design scene. Mediumcool officially launched March 06, 2001 with an exhibition of transportation designs by Vaclav Kral and students of CVUT, screenings of animated films by Vaclav Svankmajer and Norbert Drziak and a multimedia short film by Ondrej Andera. Cocktails and a sonic tonic mix by resident DJ Christian Lioret kept the crowd active until late in the night. The ongoing regularity of these meetings, together with a carefully chosen program and collaborative website, offers a new type of event to the Prague cultural scene. Future plans for Mediumcool include streaming internet events, artist-moderated competitions, and deeper educational involvement. Future topics include design for social cause, as an international language, old mediums/new techniques, function versus aesthetics and more.
